(Fishers, Indiana) – The Fishers Police Department is warning parents, students, and young adults about a dangerous and potentially deadly new form of fentanyl, known as rainbow fentanyl, emerging within communities nationwide.

Rainbow fentanyl is sold in multiple forms including pills, powder, and blocks which resemble sidewalk chalk. Law enforcement officials believe this emergence of brightly colored fentanyl forms is a new tactic to attract a younger, less-assuming customer base. Rainbow fentanyl is reported to look like candy and could be mistaken for such, especially when in the presence of children. Social media platforms continue to be the primary medium for both the selling and purchasing of narcotics here in Fishers.

The Fishers Police Department continues to proactively investigate illicit narcotics being sold and consumed within our area of responsibility. These efforts are in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across the state as we work to identify the newest narcotics trends impacting our community.

The Fishers Police Department urges all Fishers’ residents to be aware of the dangers of fentanyl that may present itself in various forms, to include counterfeit pills and/or candy. Only take medications prescribed by a medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist. For more information on counterfeit pills, please visit www.DEA.gov/onepill
